The 19th BOS features Angelica Mesiti’s most recent work In the Ear of the Tyrant. In collaboration with Italian vocalist Enza Pagliara, Mesiti re-imagines the grieving ritual, depicting a vocal performance on location at the Ear of Dionysius, an ancient limestone cave carved out of the Temenites Hill in the Sicilian city of Syracuse.
In the Ear of the Tyrant was singled out in by critic Andrew Frost’s review of the BOS in the Guardian. Frost praises the work, stating:
“Its precision, brief running time and gorgeous cinematography mark it out as one of the most successful pieces in the entire Biennale.”
