Bridget Ikin

Bridget Ikin is a passionate champion of new and innovative filmmaking, having produced award-winning films, short films, documentaries and moving image projects over many years, in both Australia and New Zealand:  initially through Hibiscus Films and now through Felix Media.

She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Australian Film Television and Radio School in 2018 for her services to the Australian film industry, in particular for her support of new voices and innovation. 

She is a member of  the Academy of Motion Pictures.

She also curates a strand of programming for the Sydney Film Festival, FLUX: art + film, which brings together films from the fertile space between fiction and non-fiction.

Key credits include:

  • SHERPA – dir. Jen Peedom, 2015. BAFTA nominated/ Film Critics Award Best Documentary; Grierson Award London Film Festival

  • LOOK BOTH WAYS – dir. Sarah Watt, 2005; AFI Award for Best Film; FIPRESCI Award, Brisbane Film Festival; Discovery Award Toronto Film Festival,; selected for Special Screening at Critics’ Week (Cannes 2006). Acquired for MoMA’s permanent collection.

  • ART + SOUL – Series 1 dir. Warwick Thornton and Series 2 dir. Steven McGregor. Two landmark series of documentaries on Aboriginal art, with distinguished Indigenous curator Hetti Perkins (ABC).

  • AN ANGEL AT MY TABLE – dir. Jane Campion, 1990. Silver Lion, Venice film Festival, and many other awards

  • THE REHEARSAL (2016) and CRUSH (1992) – both directed by Alison Maclean. CRUSH In Competition, Cannes 1992

  • Angelica Mesiti: various international moving image projects, including ASSEMBLY (Australia’s presentation at the 2019 Venice Biennale); MOTHER TONGUE (2017);  THE CALLING (2014) and CITIZENS BAND (2012)

Bridget has been the Head of SBS Independent (commissioning 400+ hours of distinctive Australian television programming), and was the Associate Director, Film, of the Adelaide Festival 2002, under its maverick artistic director, Peter Sellars (commissioning four new feature films).  During 2005-2006 she was a feature film Evaluation Manager at the FFC (now Screen Australia).  She was also a long-serving board member of the South Australian Film Corporation.
